Because of varying tastes and experience with Mexican restaurants and food, reviews for Mexican places are notoriously diverse. Los Pollitos has decent food that leans toward “authentic.” Assuming it’s a good day at Los Pollitos and you’re used to the “swamp muck” variety of Mexican food, which is the only type many Americans know, you’ll probably really like it. If they are having a bad day and you’re used to Bonita and the taco places in Sunset Park and Jackson Heights, you’ll be disappointed. As I’ve implied, Los Pollitos has it’s good and bad days, although the service is usually poor. I like the tacos, which are usually good and reasonably priced and I usually have them delivered (rarely a hitch with delivery) or pick up there, which can be a hassle because the staff is very poorly trained and shouldn’t be in the customer service business. What’s kept me from ordering lately is their health rating, which you can find online at nyc.gov.Bottom line: Don’t expect too much in

When I first moved to the Lower East Side, I was looking for local eateries in the neighborhood. When walking down Eldridge Street, I stopped dead in my tracks upon sensing the sumptuous aroma of fried pork dumplings. I followed the smell to Dumpling House, an epicurean phenom. Dumpling House serves Beijing homestyle food. They specialize in, of course, dumplings. Specifically, fried pork and chive dumplings. These are Dumpling House’s bread and butter, so to speak. Upon entering the small kitchen sized establishment, I had to finagle my way past the half dozen or so customers to get to the counter. Oh, did I mention that Dumpling House is always busy. No matter when I go there, people are waiting for the fresh batch of fried dumplings to be prepared. Aside from eating the dumplings, watching the skillful chef prepare them is the best part. The dumplings are cooked in sesame oil in a large round pan which holds about 50 or so at a time. Once the dumplings are ready, the che

Went there this morning expecting something spectacular based on all the hoopla. Forget it. Decent pankake, but not extraordinary. Eggs same as what id make at home or you could find at a deli. But the Peach Smoothie was by far the worst smoothie i have ever tasted in my entire life anywhere. It was pasty, flavorless, chalky and unfinishable. Operations are not smooth. If you order and want to sit down, it seems like too tall of an order for them to handle as they are highly disorganized with respect to waitress/host/cashier handling your order. At least they were this morning. Being that it wasn’t busy, its hard for me to give them a pass on that, but the food quality isn’t all that astounding at all. Pros + wireless internet accessCons – smoothies awful, everyhting else nothing to write home about.

Personally, the place is a great spot for a quick to-go lunch or a quick place to eat. Had the Aloo sandwhich (the one where the bread is folded over) which was VERY delicious, filling and great for the price. Also had the masala chai which I took home and had it over ice – made great ice tea. The other party had a spinach chicken nannini and had complaints. Apparently, it was just spinach and no chicken – 95% spinach; 5% chicken. In terms of service, the chefs of the place are working in this tiny sandwhich shop, sweating, however, they were all very accomodating and very knowledgable of their menu. Overall, I’d go again.Pros + Aloo sandwhich, ServiceCons – Small shop, no AC, no ice chai masala

One of the few places I can order a rare burger for delivery and it comes rare (try accomplishing that with BLT Burger for instance,) and at a fraction of the price of other neighborhood options. They also have an accomodatingly large delivery area…they’ll deliver to me when places much closer to me (Stand, for instance,) won’t. Eating in is uncomfortable, but the wait staff always does their best and are friendly even when harried. Wish the farmers market options were changed more often — they also tend to be salty. But the artichokes are great. So is the mac and cheese. So are the chicken tenders with hot sauce and salad. I could eat these all day.Pros + Can order a burger rare for delivery and have it arrive at my house rareCons – Eating in is uncomfortable, waits are endless at times
