Where are the Best Cheap Eats in New York, New York?
Great place to get lunch when you’re not in a rush, or if you’re eating a late lunch. The bratwurst, currywurst and smoked-cheese bratwurst are amazing. So are the German fries. The other sausages are also pretty good. It’s a tiny bit expensive ($9.00 for a two-sausage combo) but a better deal than many bland lunches which cost about the same. The only drawback is the slow line; it’s never really long, it just takes a lot of time for each customer. I’ve timed it actually, and you can estimate about 2 minutes per person. At peak times there’s 10-20 people waiting (20-40 minute wait) but if you go after 2:00 you’ll barely have to wait at all.
Shake Shack ! Shake Shake ! Shake Shack !!It seems like every time you’re talking or reading about burgers someone’s always writing or praising about Shake Shack ! I remember the summer of 2004, when Danny Meyer opened this modern, architecturally sleek designed burger shack in the middle of Madison Square Park, I had visions of easily rolling up on the Shack and sampling their tasty burgers on a daily basis, however I soon realized that, so did every other Tom, Dick and Harry in the gotham of New York City!! The lines it seemed were around the block at anytime of the day! Not being the most patient of people, I asked myself, “Is this real ?” “How could a burger be this good ?” I decided very adamantly, that Shake Shack was not for me, because my “need it now” type attitude was unnecessarily and frequently tested. Surprisingly as the years went on, I watched in amazement as the Shack lines of hungry bankers, fashionistas and the odd culinary savvy tourist, were not swayed from the non
I am not Vegetarian nor am I ever eager to try Vegetarian dishes but when I had my Falafel sandwich here at Taim, I was totally convinced that Vegetarian food can be delicious too! My boyfriend got the Falafel platter that contains 3 flavors of Falafel, hummus, tabuli, and some salad. It was utterly amazing. I myself ordered the Falafel (mildly spicy flavor) sandwich and it was so good! It is fried to crispy yet not greasy. They gave you plenty of tahini sauce and their Israeli pickles. I also got their home-made Pomegranate ice tea and it is so refreshing and fresh. The only bad thing about this place is there is a very limited seating area. Pros + Clean, fresh, and tastyCons – limited of Seating
What a friendly vendor! While you’re waiting for your delicious dosa to cook up, the guy cooking them keeps up a steady stream of conversation, and proudly proclaims “100% Vegan!” on his cart. It’s refreshing to be able to find such an inexpensive, but ever so tasty reminder of your amma’s (mother’s) dosas, like she used to make when you’d visit your granny in Chennai. Pros + very cheap, fairly fast, tasty
