Where are the Best Cheap Eats in New Orleans, Louisiana?
In a city where you have to search far and wide to find a bad meal – this is by far what I crave when I’m out of town. Everything is above and beyond. Honestly, the hummus is smooth, creamy, and flavorful. DO NOT MISS the Sauteed Vegetable plate – aromatic rice covered by veggies (tomatos, squash, onions, eggplants, etc) sauteed in olive oil and covered with a generous helping of feta cheese and baked. I am a mean eater and when I have time to sit down and savor Lebanon’s this is what I must order. My mother swears by the lamb chops but skip the side salad and opt for more rice or hummus. I’m getting hunry just thinking about Lebanon’s – pita bread here does come in whole wheat and far superior to Mona’s.Pros + Excellent food, good prices, good portionsCons – Inconsistent service
Seriously, if its 8pm or 4am… you will find something on the menu that you will love. For a round the clock cafe this place has so much to choose from. I eat there all the time and the prices cant be beat! Friendly waitresses remember who you are and treat you as if you were their kids in her home kitchen. Its a place i’d recomend to anyone comming in from a late night out.
We last ate at Port of Call on August 1, 2008. We ordered a Filet Mignon to split. It came with a nice salad with Italian Dressing, two fresh buns, a potato with just butter ( as we requested) and a filet, perfectly done as we ask – medium rare.We have been coming here for the past two years, and always sit at the bar. Its an eclectic bar for sure, but don’t let ancient mariner memorabilia, and dark environs scare you. The place is a gem. The staff have been there for years, and are as much of a reason to go as any. These people treat us like family after being here just a few times. The burgers are great, and the potatoes can be anything you want, as they have more ingredients than you can imagine. We only order the same drinks, so I cant comment on the Monsoons, etc.. But the traffic for them is great. The clientele are locals and tourists – no riff raff. With the turnover nightly, they run a clean ship.We came from San Francisco, and spend a good amount of time here.
I use to eat pizza from all those other places and was never really satisfied. When I was turned on to Mo’s a few years ago, that was it, never ate another pizza from anywhere else! When Mo’s burned down…. I was horrifed. I didn’t eat pizza until they were back up and running. Even the very long lines didn’t stop me. I waited in those lines just to satisfy my craving!!! IT IS THE BEST EVER!!!!!!!! and cheap too!Pros + inexpensive, large seating area, always hot pizza togoCons – sometimes crowded
