I spent a long weekend in Memphis in July with a goal of eating great barbecue. I studied the city and came up with a list of local favorites to try and the Cozy Corner was by far my pick. I tried the brisket, pork and ribs and discovered what I believe to be the best barbecue I ate in Memphis. You won’t come here for the atmosphere, but you will come for a tender smokey barbecue with a fantastic sause. We ate at Neely’s, The Rendezvou and several Beal Street Locations, but none compared. It closes at 7:00 PM so go for lunch or and early dinner before hitting the Memphis Night Life.

Probably the most popular bar in Midtown Memphis, Young Avenue Deli has everything you could expect from a bar, all the beer and liquor you could want, not to mention a fairly extensive menu with all the fatty foods necessary to fill your stomach for that drunken drive home. They also have the ability to draw in a few decent bands every month which is remarkable since Memphis is known for its lack of good shows. I’ve seen Bright Eyes, the Shins, Clem Snide, Tristeza, and many other bands here. Their taste in local music is exceptional as well. So it has a lot going for it. If you’re strapped for cash, I recommend Pabst Blue Ribbon at two bucks a pop, getting loaded doesn’t get any cheaper.

this is one of my favorite restaurants! my friends and i discovered it when we attended rhodes college, and the prices fit perfectly with our college-student budgets. years later, i still do not come to memphis without making a stop at this restaurant. i’ve brought my parents, out-of-town friends, and co-workers, and everyone loves it! the food is fabulous, and so is the patio! i saw that someone had given it a con because there was no wine list, but you can bring your own wine. also, when it’s really busy, you can put your name on the list, give them your cell number, and go across the street to the blue monkey (a great bar) to have a drink, and they will call you when your table is ready. you MUST try this place

In addition to being a locally owned and operated business, Huey’s offers eclectic music each Sunday evening and night (yes, Sundays only). The music ranges from down-home bluegrass to punk rock. Huey’s has a full menu for “regular” clientele during the day and pub type grub for those staying out a bit later.
