Where are the Best Cheap Eats in Honolulu, Hawaii?
Every time locals get back to Hawaii, they head straight to Rainbows for pork cutlet, two scoops rice, one scoop mac salad. Also serve great breakfasts. Located just off Kapahulu Avenue about 1/2 mile from Hulas Bar. Head towards mountains from beach.(Honolulu / Kapahulu Area) This place has some of the most tasty comfort food and cheap food you will find in Hawaii. The place is simple and the food is what people from Hawaii crave when they return home to Honolulu. There is something for anyone to find that will suit their tastes. The web site provided isn’t the official one but gives great info and shows some pics of place and menu. Give them a try.
No longer in it’s old shack location on Puuloa St – it has moved to a strip mall on Paiea St near the airport (only about 1.5 miles from old location). Lots of parking now and it has air conditioning and a little more seating too.While it isn’t really a hole-in-the-wall place now, they’ve done a fine job decorating the inside to give a nice local feel.While pizza is, like all food, a matter of personal preference, I found it to be the best pizza I’ve ever had in the past half century! Don’t miss the cheeseballs – if you are a new visitor, ask if they still offer a free order to new customers.This is one of three places I always take visitors and which they always want to go back to. For locals, Saimin is Hawaii’s version of Chicken Noodle soup for those chilly days & nights or when you have the flu.
