Where are the Best Cheap Eats in Honolulu, Hawaii?
Hey Kua Aina is the bomb. I have visited both the North Shore and the Ward Avenue locations. If you are looking for atmoshpere, clean seating and ambience, then the Ward Avenue location is where you want to go. However, if you want taste (to me), the North Shore location is vastly superior. Maybe its because thats the original location and the grill is seasoned over the years. Or myabe its because I went after going to the beach. All in all Kua Aina is a great place to eat a quality burger. Saying that though, there is a “bigger and better” burger in town. Keep your eyes peeled.Pros + taste, quality, freshnessCons – fries are bad
A counter-type only coffee shop that is a bakery aswell. Try the hamburger or hotdog were they use they own in-house baked bread. For dessert take a custard pie home from the bakery side. From 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm, they have a hotdog and soft drink special for only $1.00.Pros + $1.00 hotdog special, Custard Pie, Butter RollsCons – , Cleanliness, Friendliness
Take a number – this place is always packed during lunch hours, but worth the wait. The restaurant has some small tables and chairs, but not really a place to sit and eat. Inside looks like a cafeteria with a serious selection of meats, veggies, starch – the spicy eggplant, chow fun and egg fuyoung are excellent. The chicken is good – I’ve had better. But, the manapua is very good – not as great as Aiea Manapua, but still very tasty and a better selection. I especially like the Roast Duck manapua – it is ground-up rather than sliced or seared and has a thick mixing of hoisin, but it is good. The NikuMan manapua was tasty too – with pork hash, shitake mushroom and onions (very generous w/the shitake). The prices seem high until you realize a plate lunch will feed two to three – they tape the containers closed to keep the mountain of food inside the box!The place is clean but chaotic and loud – it’s a relief to get out of the door with your plastic bag. The staff seems very foc
