We went as a church group of about 12 people. We called several hours before getting there and they made reservations. The men’s bathroom was not accessible for me in my wheelchair but they let me use the ladies, and let others know I was using it, even though I could lock the door. All in all, a nice experience and we will consider going back as a group.Pros + Friendly helpful staff and good foodCons – Quite dark, hard to read their menu

I went to Lafayette Coney Island for the first time in December, 2009 with a friend who grew up in Detroit and who just loves this place. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY and spent many summer days enjoying hot dogs by the ocean at Nathan’s in the “real” Coney Island. I love places that are down-to-earth and not full of themselves. This place is just such a place and it made me laugh and smile to see my friend’s face come alive as if she was a child again as she was when she enjoyed the chili dogs here years ago. As for myself, I found the dogs to be just ok, sloppy but fun to eat. The service was good and the waiter was happy to know we had traveled so far (from NY) to visit this fun place. Pros + Atmoshpere, serviceCons – location

Bates is the best restaurant to go to when looking for a quick lunch or dinner, but be sure and allow some time for them to prepare the burgers at lunch time. I don’t care for burgers, but I will eat 2 Bates burgers with onions, ketchup, mustard. My brother from Lansing tries to make a point to hit Bates whenever in town. My son who lives in Toledo also does the same thing. He heads for Bates, then to City Hall to see his dad. Since his dad had a heart attack, he has to stay away from greasey foods. Their fries are always nice and crispy and the chocolate shakes are very thick. An enjoyable little restaurant.
