Where are the Best Cheap Eats in Columbus, Ohio?
Old Bag of Nails was one of Columbus’ first British styled pubs. Or Irish pub. I’m not sure which, they all look the same now. This one is actually in Worthington, now they dot the landscape around Columbus, along with their imitators. The Bag of Nails, as it should, serves a mean fish and chips, and has some excellent beers and ales to wash any menu item down with. This location is smallish and gets crowded easily, and closes early due to its location in the suburbs. But definitely check out one of the Bags when you’re in town.
My friend and I stopped here because of a reccomendation, on our way from NYC to LA. I was kind of apprehensive upon reading about the delay in the seating process, as it was a friday night and we were still a good 3 hours away from Indianapolis (our first nights destination). As it was only a little over 2 miles off the 70, we figured we’d give it a shot and at least grab a beer (just one of course). We got there and sure enough it was packed, so we put our names down (about 8th on the list) then hit the potty. After washing up we went to the bar to grab a drink. The bartenders were very nice and touchy-feely (well at least Shotty VonTastetester). She kept coming up and rubbing us saying;”Everything okay boys?” Then when she would make shots for people, there somehow always magically managed to be one left over for herself. But Ill give it to her, her tolerance was high.I ordered the bacon burger. It was sooo good. It was served with chips and a pickle; both pretty good as well. S
Where does one start. I was looking for something a little different than our normal Chinese Restaurant. So did My CitySearch and read some of the reviews on Moy’s. I have to admit that when I see Campus area I tend to look for the next but I was hungry for something different so I convinced 2 of my teenagers and my wife to joing me on an adventure to a Chinese next to a donut shop.Enough of the turmoil. Let?s just say we were floored. Our Waitress was the daughter of the owner and she had only been back to work for a few days. She took us thru the menu to find dishes that we would have never looked at. I had the Pepper steak not only was the presentation great but I am a big eater and this was enough for 2 of me. It was tender well cooked smelled and tasted as if I were eating in a high end restaurant. Wife had a noodle dish that was better than the Singapore noodles she used to get from Mark Pi’s. She claimed these to be the best she has ever had. Teen one had Orange Chicken. Chicke
I moved to Honolulu, and I miss Chipotle here! Baja Fresh has no spice, even with entire salsa bar heaped on top of the burrito! Contrary to what others say, rice is extremely healthy and nutricious. There’s a reason people in Asian cultures stay slim with their rice-based diets! It’s what you add to the rice that can rob it of its health content. Chipotle only adds cilantro to their rice, and as someone who was raised in an Asian family, I like the change from the rice I’m used to consuming! I’m definitely a Chipotle addict, and for me, Baja just doesn’t do the trick. It’s up to you to try both Baja and Chipotle and decide which you prefer. The food is great, its as close as your going to get to a home cooked meal in the campus area, which is why its so croweded and always chalked full of college kids (its sort of like a little peice of home). Parking is a bit rough, but then again 90% of the people going there walk from just a few blocks away so they really wont ever need to improve on parking. Itll be most packed on saturday and sunday (post party nights) during the school year so definitly expect a long line on those mornings…other then that you should be fine. The biggest down side to nancys is if your in a group even with one other person…they only bring 1 check a little more then inconvienient for a place getting that much business. If you live south of lane its a bit of a hike, but its worth it. If your south of 15th just drive there is actually PLENTY of parking in the area. You could swing over to blockbuster and park you wont get towed the parking lot is so big…and plenty of parking on East which is a half
