Inexpensive, Delicious food. The best lunch spot in Bucktown bar none! An absolute must if your in the area the chicken also arrives in chili, salad and pita sandwiches. Sides like mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese are also available.

Joy’s is a place that will leave a lasting impression and leave you wanting to come back time and time again. Their food is always fresh, flavorful, inexpensive and you will almost always go home with leftovers! I can honestly say that my friends and I count down the days until we go to Joy’s next and know that we are getting some of, if not the best Thai food in town. We are huge fans of the newly redone menu, which now features appetizers such as crab rangoon(the best I’ve ever had) and old favorites like Pad Thai and Fried Rice. Kudos to the staff who are professional and by far the best around. Take out is fast and is always the same quality as when you dine in. Joy’s had made it’s staple in Lakeview that we hope never disappears. Pros + InexpensiveCons – Parking Tight

The food is awesome. I’m a vegetarian, so opt for the Pad Thai with Tofu. The food is excellent, much bigger portions than many of the other Thai resteraunts on Taylor St.But, the service is really bad. I think its the result of a downward spiral. Their service sucks, people tip low, and they now think that people tip low no matter what, so they make their service suck. If you tip low (I only give them 10%) – they will let u know that they think that blows. Why I tip low? They will come to your table 3 times. To take your order, give you your food, and then give you your bill. Its YOUR job to ask for refills on water, drinks, etc. They never come by and ask “Is everything okay?”. My Pop used to sneak me in here when it was a biker dive bar in the 70s/80s when I was a youngster and The Turk was the Boss. So aside from many fond memories it is one of my favorite value-for-money places in Chicago AND the best seafood place I have been to and I have been everywhere, from up to downscale. When you enter the Half shell you think you are going into a cave–it is in a basement and has a few tables with Christmas lights left up year round. The service is no frills, and luckily the menu doesn’t change much. The shrimp are large and excellent and when softshell crabs are in season (usually in June) they actually prepare them correctly which is saying something about their seafood know-how since most restaurants I have been in (even ridiculously overpriced Loop and river North places), do not prepare them properly.
