Where are the Best Cheap Eats in Charleston, South Carolina?

My first review. My coworkers and I are experts at finding great places to eat lunch (I’m pretty good at eating dinner, too). We have a tradition with Brecks. If we bring someone for the first time, we buy their meal. Most of my friends have perpetuated the ritual. It’s not expensive and you just showed somebody a true gem. The setting in North Chuck is not fancy but Brecks more than makes up for it with the best lunch specials in the tri-county. NY Strip, baked potato, salad, drink for under 10…are you out of your mind? All cuts of meat here are first rate and I’ve yet to have a waitress that wasn’t a pure delight. If you’ve never been to Brecks, stop. Stop what you’re doing right now, get in your car, drive to Brecks and eat. Then come back and read this: “I told you so.”

I was hesitant to try this place because I have never been a huge Greek food fan, however, I am so glad I did. The gyros are the best!!! Fo…

Earthfare has plenty of hot and cold ready to eat foods and a food bar. They also have a microwave so you can heat up cold stuff from the deli. They have a wonderful selection of dips, ready-made sandwiches, soups, breads, deserts, etc. This is an awesome store and the best Earthfare in SC. (I have visited all of them. Columbia’s Earthfare on Devine Street is #2 IMHO.)

I had been coming to Charleston on business 2 years in a row and had never visited because of the Humongous line outside each time. I had always been told they are good for seafood but also had some bad reviews from friends.Well, some colleagues were all going there so I decided to do the wait thing with them. Wanting to be non-biased I decided before entering that I’d order all seafood and items that were not breaded (cuz anyone can stick flour on it and fry it) and preferrabley broiled or sauteed.I had Shrimp Scampi, Bowl of Mussels and Bufalo Oysters (fried oysters are preferred in my book). Scampi and Oysters were really good. The bowl of mussels were awesome…lots of Garlic and Butter throughout…made the order at another raw bar seem dismal at best…this bowl of mussels was big and very flavorful. My dining experience at Hyman’s was pleasureable and I have time to sit and wait, I’ll return.Pros + Good seafood varietyCons – Enduring the line outside
