Where are the Best Cheap Eats in Boston, Massachusetts?
I’m very glad that after nine years of living and going to school around Cleveland Circle and finding very little in the way of great food, I finally gave Bangkok Bistro a try. I’m no Thai expert so I can’t comment on how “authentic” it is, but I’d think only a total snob could complain about the value. The menu is large and varied, the food is extremely tasty, the portions are big and best of all for students in the area, the prices are down right cheap (lunch: $6-$7 specials/dinner: appetizers from $5-$6 and most entrees under $10). The service is very polite and the atmosphere, while nothing special, is great for either groups or a quiet dinner for two. Huge stuffed burritos (chicken, pork, veggie or steak) with lots of sides to go in with it. I get the super chicken with rice, cheese, extra salsa and hot sauce. It takes about 2 minutes to order, watch them make it, and pay. $5 for a big Mexican meal wrapped in a tortilla, the best! Other dishes (tacos, quessadillas, etc) look good too, but I cannot resist those burritos whenever I go.Pros + Burritos, prices, speed.Cons – Closes at 11
Consistently one of my favorite restaurants/bars in Boston. Hats off to the staff for making this place time and time again great. I never hesitate to bring an out of town guest or come to Franklin for a special meal. The menu is not huge and there are no desserts, however almost everything that comes of the kitchen is done right. My only complaint is that you have to come early. They dont take reservations and if you expect to be seated right away, opt for an early or late dinner. I went to the Delux Cafe when I was in town for Easter weekend on Friday night. We chose the place because of its supposed “chill” environment. Well, you might remember how freezing it was that night. The window above our table was open so we closed it. The waitress told us how hot they (waitresses and kitchen staff) were and that the window must remain fully opened. Well, we all put our winter coats on (guys too) to try to stay warm and we still felt like we were outside. So, I closed the window. The waitress yelled at me to open the window again. I calmly explained that it was impossible for us to sit there with the window open and offered to compromise and open it halfway. That was not acceptable to her and she went on about how hot it gets for her and the staff (this was around midnight so it’s not like the kitchen staff was cooking). I tried to reason with her and explained that we are the customers, let’s compromise, etc. I never raised my voice or anything. I asked t
i love the vegetarian burrito and plato. everything tasted very fresh. chipotle salsa is amazing, and the guacamole is so fresh tasting, lacking the too-salty, preservative taste that some of the chain mexican burrito joints seem to have. i recently had a party and ordered $50 of food to go. $50 can go a long way at el pelon. everyone commented on how good it was. the fried plantains lasted about 30 seconds after putting them out. overall the food is excellent for a very reasonable price.
