Where are the Best Cheap Eats in Boston, Massachusetts?
I used to come to Silvertone’s all the time when I lived in Beacon Hill. It’s a little hard to find at first, since it’s in the basement. When you do discover it, you realize how much you like the cocktails and the food. It’s not fancy but consistent and a good way to get something in your stomach especially when you are bar hopping on a weekend or even after work. Location cant be beat. My only complaint is that it can and does get quite loud and the waitstaff are ofter stretched thin when they get full. Which is often! Pros + Great drinks and foodCons – hard to find, loud, busy
The Paramount is kind of an unusual place. You go up and order first, move down the line to pay and get a drink, get your food, and then sit down. There is a huge sign on the wall that asks customers not to reserve seats while the rest of your party is ordering. You sit down after you get your food. I haven’t had a problem getting a seat. I’ve also never felt rushed eating there, though it’s definitely not a place to sit, drink coffee, read the paper and hang out for an hour. I’d say the staff aren’t particularly friendly but they are courteous. I’ve only been there for breakfast and the food seems pretty good. I’d rate the french toast as good but not fantastic. (I am a french toast fanatic though.) My fiance said that the omelet he had was one of the best he’s ever tasted. Pros + Food, fast service, quirky
This is a neighborhood place that when you come more than once you become a regular. It has breakfast, lunch, mostly takeout. The Hamburgs are the best I have ever had along with the breakfast sandwiches. All the food is fresh and great. Don’t be surprised when you get your change and you think they undercharged you , they didn’t. The only downside about Mangia Mangia is that they are not open evenings or on the weekends. With out a doubt the best hidden gem in the North End. Pros + cheeseburgers, staffCons – none
A quintessential Boston dining experience is to get a roast beef sandwich with all the trimmings, a chowder and some fries and head across the street and dine out on the outdoor dining patio next to the beach. And to curious visitors to Boston, this is not your typical fast food “roast beef”. This is fresh from the oven, just sliced and juicy meat. Forget your diet and get it with gravy for the full experience. There are several other Boston locations but the beach location is by far the most fun. Pros + Real Roast Beef; Clam Chowder; Great Beach Location
