Where are the Best Cheap Eats in Baltimore, Maryland?
Everything from start to finish was amazing. The fried oysters with pernod fennel cream, the crab cakes, the decadent brownie sundae with hazelnut gelato. The service was outstanding, extremely friendly and accomodating. Very knowledgeable, down to earth staff made the meal all the more enjoyable. The atmosphere is very cozy, ecclectic, shabby chic. I felt right at home. 3 people, appetizer, 3 entrees, dessert and a bottle of wine for under $100. You cannot go wrong, and you would be very hard pressed to find a restaurant with such a unique atmosphere and wonderful food. It seems a bit out of the way if you aren’t familiar with the area, but it is so worth it. Make the trip, check out the neighborhood, because there are some really interesting looking bars around there, and then head back to touristy Thames St and the Harbor. Being open 24/7 is pretty much the reason why the Double T endures. Not the best food in town, not the worst, either. This a good restaurant for large groups, they seem pretty flexible about adding tables, etc. The huge menu means most diets can be accommodated. The desserts look better than they taste.You can get better food up the street at Shirley’s but they can’t handle large groups as well as Double T. The service is not excellent (sometimes it’s downright bad) but not as consistently bad as the Paper Moon or Burke’s. They do take their time serving you. It’s less annoying in a large group.The prices are in line with similar restaurants, neither a bargain nor outrageously expensive. If you want bargain food, you’d be better off going up Rolling Road to Pioneer Pit Beef. But it’s cheaper than Paper Moon. There’s nothing here that would make me vow never to come back but nothing memorable to make me suggest it UNLESS you have a large group of diverse tastes. Then coming here m
I have been going to this restaurant for years. The food is prepared very quickly, the service is prompt and unfailingly freindly and the food is very good. I would recommend both the twice cooked chicken and the moo shoo pork. Also, the cooks will prepare the food exactly as spicy as you want it. For the price the food is great, the servings are large and more then worth the price. Pros + inexpensive, quick serviceCons – cliche atmosphere
I started coming to this place when I was thirteen, back in 1995, and I have been coming ever since. I’ve since moved away from Baltimore, having lived in Los Angeles and Raleigh, NC, and I have to say that this is still my favorite greasy spoon. I mean, it’s a diner that serves beer, first of all. And the crowning jewel is the crabcake.I grew up in Baltimore. I grew up eating delicious crabcakes at street fairs, carnivals, slapped off a spatula onto a plate in my grandmother’s kitchen, and all over the city. Since leaving B-more, I’ve ordered crabcakes in various establishments in all levels of restaurants across the nation, which have never equaled the quality of the humble Baltimore crabcake. And Sip & Bite’s version is by far and away the best of the bunch.Lots of crabmeat, tender and unobtrusive breading, a delicate flavor and fork-tender consistency make this crabcake the staple of my visits to the old hometown. This place has it all. Good fried chicken (come in the afternoon for the most fresh), good burgers and excellent fries. Try the shwarma, all yummy. They started selling Chinese and sushi. The sushi is good the chinese so so. Still with good prices (and liquor too) Kosher Bite is a winner in my book.
