Where are the Best Cheap Eats in Austin, Texas?
We went for dinner and then went back for breakfast. At dinner time hubby got really good roast pork, it was actually delicious, however my bison burger was dry, small and tasteless. The home fries had a weird taste for me.Hoping breakfast would be much better we returned the next day. The pancakes were awesome but my omelette was pretty unflavorful. I had the Popeye. I guess I didn’t expect as many onions. If you order anything with red onions, be prepare for a LOT! Service was just ok too… our waiter was obviously just too cool for the place and looked like he’d rather be anywhere else than there.Overall a disappointmentPros + fun atmosphereCons – food just average
It had been a while since I had eaten at Artz, but I have been twice in the last month or so and the ribs were wonderful. Tender, moist & very tasty. On my second recent visit, I had to order a full raack, so I had guaranteed leftovers to take home. Unlike some other reviewers, I like the BBQ sauce a lot. Even tho’ the ribs taste fine without sauce, I gotta have it. It has kind of ruined me for other barbecue joints. It’s a tangy tomato/vinegar style sauce and to say it is a mix of ketchup and mustard is just dumb. The sides, beans, coleslaw, & tater salad were all very good. The potato salad is a different than I remember, but tastier.(I used to think it was bland.) I have always liked the coleslaw, which is NOT swimming in dressing as too many slaws are.I do go along with the “Insider Tip”…go when the music is playing. The musicians I’ve seen there are usually pretty damn good.
Headline says it all. Take a tums with you…but the food is great, prices are even better. Downside is the seating but hey, it’s Austin…Pop the hatch on the back of your SUV, or pull down the tailgate and you are good to go. Mmm, i want a carne guisada right now. Pros + Food and turn around time. Cons – seating
You may approach this place thinking its a slightly shabby Mexican restaurant, but then you see Don Juan’s Porsche in the parking long and you start wonder. Honestly, this is the best food to have after a night on 6th (as long as it wasn’t too crazy). I bet this place would make a killing if they were open late hours of the night. I have been here over 10 times. and I probably ordered the Don Juan 9 times out of 10. The Don Juan is CHEAP, GOOD, and FILLING! The place can get really crowded for lunch, so try to get there early if you want to get seated faster. And to top it off, you can generally see the proud owner Juan there to greet you with his famous hefty handshake (it almost knocked me off balance once!). Pros + Great food for an awesome value in a really chill place!Cons – Juan isnt ALWAYS around to shake your hand
