My husband and I recently stayed at the Woodburn and did not regret our choice for a single moment. It was charming, quiet, immaculate, comfortable, and convenient to all our destinations. We stayed in two rooms during our stay: the semi-detached cottage (huge!) and the smallest inside room, the Hamilton (still roomy, with very high ceilings three lace-draped windows). In…

My husband and I recently went here for the first time. When we drove up, the first thing I noticed was the wrap around porch and the little white lights all over the trees in the spacious yard. A gazebo, beautiful benches and plants, the place was an oasis. We were running late to check in, but Phoebe (the owner) had cookies out and showed us around, encouraged us to help outselves to snacks in the kitchen. The place was spotless, but not sterile like some hotels can be. Breakfast includes healthy options as well as made to order home cooked meals. The atmosphere is casual and convivial. My husband and I were celebrating a special vent, and Phoebe went out of her way to include several ‘extras’ as a surprise! We are from Austin but wanted a spot close to home. We stayed in the Sabinal room in the Young House, across the street from the Main House. The room decor was pretty, although the bedding seemed old. It was very homey and relaxing. The claw-footed tub was a nice touch. The only drawback to the nights was that facing a fairly busy street, the room was sometimes loud with car noises. Breakfast was absolutely scrumptious, with friendly service. This is a great getaway, close to the outlet mall and river activities. Just beware it’s on a busy street, not in the country.Pros + Service, Breakfast

I’ve never posted a restaurant review, but I want to spread the word about the Old Coupland Inn. We live in Coupland, so go there regularly. We only have one restaurant, and thankfully, it is a good one.Service is super friendly. The atmosphere is great too, in a beautiful, real historic building with some period and some Texas farm country decor. It used to be a pharmacy, now it’s a restaurant, but otherwise the building is the same as it was over 100 years ago, or at least it feels like it. You can dress up or dress down. We’ve gone for special occasions, taken all our family when they’ve come to visit, but usually just go for dinner with the kids. We always see friends and neighbors there. We like to start with a pitcher of Shiner while we make up our minds. The BBQ is great, even the chicken, which is usually an afterthought at other places. The salmon is my other favorite if I want something lighter. If you don’t want it well done, order it very rare. It will come rare to medi
