Where are the Best Bartenders in Portland, Oregon?
First, let me say that the chicken lettuce wraps from the appetizer menu are fantastic. The other dishes I’ve tried don’t hold the same appeal, however.. this is definitely a step above Panda Express, but doesn’t qualify in my book as the best Chinese food I’ve ever eaten. I’ve both ordered take out, and eaten in, and I can’t recommend either. I’ve experienced exhausting waits for the take out to be prepared, but neither do I like the very loud and very crowded seating area in the restaurant. The decor is beautiful and trendy, but I don’t enjoy having to bump into other diners’ tables when trying to get to mine, nor do I enjoy struggling to hear my dining companions over the noise that rivals the level of a school cafeteria. I agree with all comments from the previous review.The staff is wonderful, kind and personable.The food is superb. Fresh wrapped is good if it is not fried. All soup is scrumptious. The fried lobster bites are awsome (especially with the sauce)… the list goes on. Eat anything and you will be happy. Drinks are great and made by a bartender who knows their stuff.Big screen that is showing cartoons (or sportscenter) as you are listening to music.I miss the live DJ, but the staff generally has a good choice in music (or Aqua Teen Hunger Force). Not too crowded… and to me, this is the best part. This is an intimate and cozy bar with a non-smoking room in the front, a smoking room in the back (with great wall-art), and a couple tables out front during the dry season. Highly recommended! Reservations are a must! We were able to call that day and get reservations for later that night. Parking is confusing if you are not from Portland, but you can validate your ticket at PCG. My dad took me to Hubers the first time over 50 years ago when I was just 10 years old. I remember thinking that it was a special place even then. A few years later I worked downtown and would go there for lunch a couple of times a month and always loved it. Somehow it kind of slipped off the radar in the last several years and even though we eat out a lot we never thought about Hubers. Last night we were in the area so I took my wife there for dinner and discovered that they still know how to serve great food at a great price. The service was spot on and the place has a certain comforting charm to it. (except for the chairs I think those are left over from 50 years ago) you would think they could invest in something more comfortable. I had the ham dinner and it puts Honeybaked to shame, moist, tender and full of flavor and a nice size portion. My wife had the turkey and loved it. The side dishes of applesauce for the ham and cranberries for the turkey were like homemade and
Been to Saucebox a number of times, but always late night . Love the atmosphere, but drinks can be pricey for my usually low brow range. Finally able to catch their Happy Hour before a show, and I was so impressed.Well priced drinks ($3 Sapporo), and a fantastic food selection, $4 (!) each for a fantastic Miyako Burger and Pork Spring rolls. The Khao Soi was meh, but everything else made up for it.The service was prompt and friendly. The place was full, but the atmosphere was calm and we got our food in about 10 minutes. We came downtown for a show and I expected to be rushed. But the staff was so efficient and friendly, we had enough time to relax and enjoy a well-made Sazerac. Great experience.
