Where are the ants and their nest to be found?
Black ants usually invade buildings scavenging for food. In most cases the nest is situated outside the property adjacent to the exterior walls, either beneath paving slates or concrete paths or rockeries, usually on the south side of the building. They like to nest in fine sand or soil, which will remain dry throughout the year. In most cases ants gain access to dwellings through the tiniest of gaps around doorsteps, windows, airbricks or holes in the wall drilled for pipework or electrical wiring. Once inside the building the worker will forage for food scraps to sustain the colony. This is why the most commonly invaded room in the dwelling is the kitchen.
