Where are seahorses in the food chain? What role do they play?
The food “chain” is not a linear order where one organism eats the one below it, and the one above it will in turn eat it. So there is no “place” as such that the seahorse (or organism) would fit into. Rather, the term food web is more descriptive, because many plants and animals are intertwined and can affect many others. Seahorses are ambush predators, feeding on small crustaceans (crabs, shrimps), and some small fish. They can fall prey to some fish. Tuna, anglers, and sting rays are among those that eat seahorses regularly. However many fishes also find seahorses unpalatable due to their boney plates. Crabs, penguins and sea turtles are also predators found to eat seahorses.
