Where are RMUs recycled materials really going?
Last year, blue, recycling bins began to appear all over the campus, the downtown building, and the Neville Island Sports Center. These bins are single stream recycling bins, meaning that most paper, plastic, metal, and glass products can be put into these bins without having to worry about sorting them. This newer style of recycling, made popular in 2003, is easier to use, and motivates people to recycle much more than the traditional dual stream recycling. Dual stream recycling requires the residents to sort the trash by paper, plastic, metal, etc. ahead of time, and then have all the different materials sent to their specific recycling plant. With single stream, the recycling center does the sorting for the resident later. In the case of Robert Morris, saving the school time and making it easier for all the students to recycle is an added bonus to helping the environment.
