Where are facilities to dispose of old computers and TVs in an environmentally friendly way?
There are no permanent sites in New Hanover County to dispose of technological relics such as old computers or televisions, says Lynn Bestul, the county’s solid waste planner. But there just happens to be an event called New Hanover County Electronic Waste Day scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the county Department of Environmental Management office, 3002 U.S. 421 North, three miles north of the Battleship North Carolina. “We will be accepting televisions, computers, monitors, microwaves and so on. For the most part, if it has a power cord, we can have it recycled with the exception of major appliances like washers, dryers, refrigerators or air conditioners,” Bestul says. Printers will also be accepted.
