Where are all the moon rocks?
They have a large building here dedicated to the storage and study of these rocks. They are very valuable since the only source is the Moon, about 400,000 km and billions of dollars away. They must also be kept sealed to avoid contamination. They are handled in special rooms with controled environments so their chemical make up will remain the same, and not skew test results from our atmosphere or elements that are not found on the Moon. Space Center Houston also has a small Moon rock about the size of your finger that you can touch. It is anchored to a display case with room for your hand, but not enough room for large tools to dislodge the rock. It feels like any other rock, but how many people can say they touched a Moon rock? My geology professor worked in the building and gave us a tour. No free samples, but it was very interesting. I am sure there are other Moon rock samples in other locations that have been loaned out or donated for study. The bulk of them are here in Houston. I
