Where and why is St. Andrews Day celebrated?
St. Andrew’s Day is celebrated on November 30 by Scottish people everywhere, in western and eastern churches. It is also “the national day of Scotland”. Andrew, brother of Peter, fisherman in Galilee before called to follow Christ became the Patron Saint of Scotland. The “Cross of St. Andrew” (or saltire, designed by William Porcher Miles) is used on Scotland’s flag and is a “symbol of national identity”.
