Where and when did hair rebonding originate?
Hair rebonding is a Japanese innovation that started sometime in 1996. It makes use of the permanent waving chemical thio (in cream or lotion form) but instead of a curling iron or rollers, it uses a hair flat iron plus some other hair treatment chemicals. The technique consists of a chemical process and a thermal process or ironing with temperatures ranging from 140-200 degrees centigrade. Rebonding was initially introduced in the Philippines 3 or 4 years ago by a few salons and hairstylists who learned the technique abroad. Rebonding products were expensive then and the service, which was available in selected salons, cost between P5000 to P10,000. It took a local cosmetic company, Vybrance/Ahglow Professionnel, to popularize hair rebonding in the Philippines when it introduced in the market and to the salon industry the Ahglow Hairstrait Hair Rebonding System in October 2002.
