Where and when are the examinations held?

The examinations are usually held in Toronto, Ontario, once in the spring and once in the fall each year. Some specialties only offer one examination session per year. Dates are published in the 2009 Examination Information package available through the RCDC office as well as on the RCDC web site www.rcdc.ca. The dates and location(s) of the examinations are determined according to the number of candidates, examiners, facility availability and other factors. Candidates are notified shortly before the examination when and where they will need to appear. Where there are sufficient candidates, the RCDC may arrange one or more sites at dental schools in Canada for the written examination date. Candidates in the United States and abroad should contact the RCDC office regarding possible satellite examination sites for the written examination. The Written Component Location Request form should be submitted.

Examinations are held twice annually, in spring and late autumn. Exact dates are posted several months in advance on the IFTA home page. Examination sites can be set up anywhere in the world. If there are three or more individuals wishing to write the examination in a given city, IFTA will arrange for a site and proctoring. If there are fewer than three individuals, the cost for a site and for proctoring must be borne by the candidate. Traditionally, examinations are given in Frankfurt, Geneva, Paris, Lugano/Milan, London, Hong Kong, Madrid and Singapore.
