Where and how resources can be mobilized for implementation of the WHO FCTC ?
After entry into force of the FCTC, the Parties to the Convention shall promote, as appropriate, the utilization of bilateral, regional, sub regional and other multilateral channels to provide funding for the development and strengthening of multisectoral comprehensive tobacco control programmes of developing country Parties and Parties with economies in transition. Accordingly, economically viable alternatives to tobacco production, including crop diversification should be addressed and supported in the context of nationally developed strategies of sustainable development. There are a number of donors who can provide assistance to countries in implementing the WHO FCTC. However, most of these donors are contributing funds to WHO headquarters.
