First, check the Internet Connection Properties. If disconnect is set to “never” or if you are using AOL, you will need a “work around”.Have two browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.) windows open. • Log into Blackboard in one window. • Go to a favorite website in the other. • Start your assessment or exam in Blackboard. • Every five minutes or so open the other browser window and click on a link or go to a new page. The computer will see Internet activity and not disconnect. The “safer” solution it to type the answers to the assessment in a word processing program before you connect to the Internet and Blackboard. • Open your word processor (Word, Works, Word Perfect, etc.) • Type the answers to the assessment questions. (This is great because a word processor has spell checking.) • When you have completed the assessment, save the file. • Do not close the word processing program. Leave the assessment you have typed on the screen. • Connect to the Internet and log onto Blackboard.
