Viking Women Had Bra Fashion Shows Feb 28 2008 By Keith Mcleod VIKING women wore bras and staged fireside fashion shows to show off colorful new designs. Archaeologist Annika Larsson says a find at Sweden’s oldest Viking settlement, Birka, proves the first bras were designed to give lift and shape. But they were banned by killjoy Christians who regarded them as pagan. Annika added: “It was also felt that they made the female body too much an object of observation.” Cloth samples with fasteners and round pieces of metal were found in the mud near the Swedish capital, Stockholm. Annika said: “It was thought these were shoulder-protectors for women carrying heavy loads. “But comparing them with figurines found at the site, they seem to have been worn as a metal bra. “Vikings took oriental influences and combined them with Nordic clothing. “Colours in cloth found in the mud were designed to be shown off in firelight. “So the garments had an aesthetic lingerie effect as well as providing su
