As a newly-appointed voting member of the Board of Regents, Wingad, 21, of Rice Lake will have some direct say in the UW System’s academic policies and even its budget – responsibilities that one of his colleagues is confident he can handle. “He’s worked with a lot of administrators, he’s worked with a lot of students,” said Meghan Charlier, who has worked with Wingad on UW-Eau Claire’s Student Senate. “He knows what it’s like to have people coming at him from all sides.” Others at the university also described Wingad as careful, thorough and smart. Wingad is majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology, with a minor in Spanish for the health sciences. He hopes to attend medical school following his graduation in 2011.
