When will the requirements of the revised Landfill BPEM come into effect?
The Regional and Metropolitan Waste Management Groups will implement the draft & final Landfill BPEM in their strategic planning for landfills. It is to be used by Planning Authorities in making planning decisions around closed, current and future landfills. The draft Landfill BPEM requirements will be taken into account for all applications for new landfills and landfill cells. The finalised Landfill BPEM applies to all applications for landfills. For operating landfills, the requirements of the revised requirements should be implemented by 30 June 2010. The Auditor approved monitoring program to be implemented to enable submission of the 2010/2011 Annual Performance Statement.
