Those statistics are horrible, but the quote you provided isn’t a statement of what the church will do if the acts happen. It is a call to pray (which is always necessary to be closer to God and live as he wants us to), and to be very introspective in religious institutions. This is preventive — Christians must be observant of each other’s behavior and their own. This way, no one will be able to say they never noticed anything going on, and those people with those problems will not be allowed to hide. If it happens, there will be punishment, but that’s another statement.
