When will the peak fall colours (colors) arrive in 2010?
This is often a question we are asked on our website, and the answer can vary depending on the source of the destination, the amount of rain, the first frost, the temperature of nearby bodies of water, and the fullness of the foliage on the trees, the vertical height of the area above sea level. This year 2009 has seen a bit more rain than usual, and the foliage is thick, the leaves are healthy and probably a bit bigger this year than last year. This will make for a more spectacular fall colour and fall foliage season in Ontario. This year, 2010 in Ontario, saw less snow fall than usual which means less water in the water table, plus the existing snow melted early; however, the maple sap became “buddy” earlier, which means more sap flowed into the trees earlier (less available for Maple Syrup). The Peak fall colour season will generally fall from the last weekend in September to the first weekend in October September 23-October 4, 2010.
