The Medicare incentive payment program will begin on January 1, 2011 for non-hospital-based physicians demonstrating meaningful use of certified EHR technology (see chart below). Physicians as defined in Section 1861 of the Social Security Act include doctors of medicine, osteopathy, dental surgery, dental medicine, podiatry, and optometry; and chiropractors.
