Canadian door manufacturer Tru Tech Doors will take over a production facility in Spotsylvania County vacated by another door maker, Therma-Tru, that had left 220 Fredericksburg-area residents jobless. Tru Tech has purchased Therma-Tru’s equipment, and production of steel doors will start in July with 40 employees who lost their jobs when Therma-Tru closed, said John Careri, owner of Tru Tech Doors. Tru Tech hopes to employ as many as 200 people within two years as production expands, Careri said. Tru Tech was initially interested only in buying Therma-Tru’s equipment. But Careri was impressed by the Therma-Tru workers he met during a Spotsylvania site visit. “I just shook my head and said there was no reason why this facility should close. I’ve worked many years to get the culture in my facilities half of what it is in Virginia in that facility,” Careri said. “It was tremendous.
