Earth is going to get destroyed as the sun expands in about 4 to 5 billion years. Earth is not going to get destroyed in 2012 as some stupid people suggest as there is no scientific reason that it should. People say the world is coming to an end in 2012 because that’s when the Mayan calendar ends; and by ending it doesn’t mean that everything is going to be destroyed, just that they couldn’t be bothered extending the calendar. Eventually, a variety of things can terminate human existence. Since there is a possibility of human extinction and since there is an infinite amount of time for it to happen, that means it has a probability of 1 – definitely going to happen. Things like war, aliens, disease could destroy the human race; you can’t really be that sure which one it’s going to be.

People think that since the Mayans calculated a lot of things correctly, that they will be correct about the precise date of when the Earth will end: December 23, 2012 (or something close to that year). But people forget that it may have just been a date they came up with for their calendar year ending. I personally think the Earth will “end” when the sun dies. “Our Sun is now about halfway through its middle age. It will continue to give us light and heat for another 5 billion years. How long a star lasts depends on how big it is. The biggest stars live fast (meaning hot) and die young by blowing themselves to bits (Supernova) . Smaller stars live calmly for hundreds of millions of years and die much more quietly. ” But that won’t happen for billions of years probably.
