When will The City of Calgary Parks implement improvement project recommendations?
Improvement project activities are already underway. Activities began in the winter of 2007 when work was undertaken to repair damages to the parks riverbank that were sustained during the 2005 floods. 2008 in-park activities will commence this spring. • When will the regional pathway missing link be completed? Construction of the regional pathway system, including safety fencing, will begin in the summer/fall of 2008. • Will river access be maintained for park users? Southland Park provides a popular Bow River destination for all park users. Heavy use of the river by park users, in conjunction with a lack of vegetation cover, has led to soil erosion and extensive release of sediment into the river. Released sediment negatively impacts the quality of fish habitat and spawning areas. Four designated river access locations will be established to address popular use of the river by all park users.
