When will my 21 month old child learn to speak?

As long as you cater to his needs without him having to verbalize; he probably won’t. Next time he wants to pull you somewhere; don’t go. Speak to him and ask him to tell you what he wants. NEVER speak baby talk to him. Enunciate properly so he can understand what he is to say. He’ll probably throw a tantrum because he is used to getting his way, but you must remain firm. Continue talking to him and tell him he has to ask for what he wants. Encourage independence. He should have his own room and sleep in his own bed throughout the night without bothering you. If he doesn’t; MAKE him. Parents are teachers; so start teaching. If deaf, dumb and blind Hellen Keller can be taught to speak, so can your 2 year old. Many parents want to be their child’s best friend. Either you can raise him up to be a responsible person OR you can be best buds; but you can’t have it both ways.

Take your child to a speach therapist, they can address any concern if there is any. My daughter didn’t speak until she was 2 1/2 – 3 yrs old. Now she doesn’t stop talking. As long as your child can recognise things and understands what you are saying.
