When will cooltown services become a reality?
Much of the technology needed to create seamless cooltown interactivity exists today. For example, devices such as handheld wireless devices, laptop computers and cellular phones are in wide use. Voice interaction with your vehicle has already been prototyped and may be a reality by mid-decade. Enabling software, such as the Chai Appliance Platform for access and hosting of services within and by appliances, already exists. The timetable really depends on how fast the necessary infrastructure can be created around existing technologies. Because cooltown is based on open web standards, we’re hopeful that our vision will become reality in the near future. We are committed to working with developers, partners and customers to make cooltown real. Some of cooltown technology has been transferred to products, including HP Chai Server, which enables any device to be connected to the web. The OZ architecture for laser printers, which allows users to print by reference, is another example.
