Beginning August 1, 2006, providers (or members seeing an out-of-network or out-of-state provider) can request prior authorization for NC SmartChoice services scheduled on or after October 1, 2006, by calling BCBSNC toll-free at 1-800-672-7897, or by faxing their request to 1-866-225-5258.
