When will Amazon.com sell francophone rock music as MP3 downloads?
Not anytime soon…the problem is with recording /distribution rights I went through this same problem about two years ago when I made a business trip to the UK. I was there for two months, and purchased The Arctic Monkey’s first CD through iTunes.uk while I was there, before it came out in the US. I emailed my daughter about the music, and she tried to get the music from iTunes, but was unable to, because they had not released the album in the US at that time. I did some digging and found out that the distribution of music by foreign artists is strictly controlled by their record labels. If Warner UK, for example, releases an album in Europe, they reserver the distribution rights worldwide. As a result, until they release an album in another country, such as the US, it’s illegal for the foreign retailer, like Amazon, or Best Buy, to sell the album until and unless the record label allows them to do so.
