When were the Ortho Evra® birth control patch ’s dangerous side effects first made public?
In July 2005 AP released an article that outlined Ortho Evra’s higher fatality rate, and showed that OrthoEvra users were exposed to three times greater risk of stroke and blood clot than women who used conventional birth control pills. These findings alarmed the medical community and the public, and later that year the FDA required Ortho-McNeil to change the label in the Ortho Evra birth control patch’s packaging.
