The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) Nittany Lion statue was dedicated on October 24, 1942 as part of the public college’s Homecoming festivities. Called the Nittany Lion Shrine, the statue depicts the college’s mascot and was created out of Indiana marble. It was a gift from the university’s Class of 1940.
