The London Dungeon is set into one of the Railway Arches (as we call them here in London) of London Bridge Railway Station. The first section of the London & Greenwich Railway was opened in 1836. However, it was not until December, 1838 that the whole line was finished. Built on a viaduct consisting of 978 arches, the line ran from Greenwich to London Bridge. The station was designed by Thomas Turner and Henry Roberts and later it became the administrative headquarters of the London & Brighton Railway. The railway arches at London Bridge Station, date from c1838 – thus the arch which is now rented out to the London Dungeon Company dates from about that year.
