0

The Recorder of Deeds is one of the oldest offices in the country. It was started on May 10, 1729, the same year Lancaster was officially chartered as a county. At that time, Lancaster County was under the administration of Patrick Gordon, Governor of the Colony of Pennsylvania. Prior to founding, Lancaster County was a part of Chester County. A copy of this county’s charter is on display in the office.
