When Was the Kitchenaid Stand Mixer Invented?
The invention of the Kitchenaid Mixer dates back to 1908 when an engineer for the Hobart Manufacturing Company, Herbert Johnson, observed a baker mixing dough using a metal spoon. He took that as inspiration and created a mechanical version, which became the first electric standing mixer. This stand mixer eventually became common equipment in plenty of large bakeries. The first home mixer was eventually introduced in 1919 and was called the model H-5. Hobart called this the “Food Preparer” and was the first stand mixer for home use. The first home mixer wasn’t cheap and convenient though it cost around $189.50 and weighed more than 60 pounds. In 1936, however, Egmont Ahrens redesigned the mixer by trimming it down and lowered the price considerably and that’s when the mixer started turning heads of customers.
