When was the Grand Coulee Dam built?
In the 1930’s, right? Have there been any changes to Central/Eastern Washington since the 1930’s? Some would make a joke by saying “no”, but we both know the truth is that massive changes have taken place since the largest dam on the Columbia was constructed. And yet you’d still place stock in the feasibility studies done in the 1930’s about what the river can and cannot handle? Have the Canadians added any dams to the river north of the border? You bet they have. Are increasing populations all along the Columbia putting increasing stresses of pollution, lower stream flows due to an ever increasing need for power generation, increasing needs for irrigation, increasing needs for drinking water, etc.? Of course they are. The problem is that you are farming a desert. That’s why the government agency that provides you with irrigation water is called the Bureau of Reclamation – “reclaiming” desert for agricultural purposes. What do you pay the owners of this common resource (U.S. and Canadi
