When was the first bible written (OT)?
The OT is more correctly known as the Hebrew Scriptures. The oldest individual book out of the collection of 39 (Christian reckoning) could have been penned while Israel was wandering for 40 years in the desert, circa 1,446 B.C. The last book was probably written around 433 B.C. If you only knew how astonishingly accurate today’s versions are with the oldest available manuscripts, you would not have said it has “changed so much”. Check out the incredible belt and braces methods of Jewish scribes who copied the Hebrew Scriptures and realise that what we have today is essentially the same as the originals. The differences are details. There is more reason to check the translation and copying of the New Testament (Greek Scriptures) because more differences are found there. But the Jewish scribes must rate as the world’s most diligent copyists – in the whole of history! Kudos!
