When was the computer invented?
There are arguments for at least six different dates. 1840 approximately, Charles Babbage invented a huge mechanical computer with punched-card programming called the “Analytical Engine”, but he could never get it built. 1928 approximately, Vannevar Bush at M.I.T. constructed a large electromechanical analogue computer for solving differential equations. 1940 approximately, John V. Atanasoff and Clifford Berry at Iowa State University built the ABC electronic computer which could add binary numbers, but they had not worked out the idea of programming it. 1944, Howard H. Aitken at Harvard University built a huge electromechanical digital calculator ASCC which could perform a sequence of calculations according to a punched paper tape. 1944, Max Newman and Tommy Flowers built the “Colossus” electronic code-breaking machine at Bletchley Park.

Alan Turing is regarded as the father of modern computer science and in 1936 officially provided the concept of computation and algorithm with the machine of turing. He presented the blueprint of electronic digital computer. In 1941, a German engineer Konrad Zuse invented the first working computer. On November 1937, George Stikitz built a relay based calculator and is regarded as the father of modern digital computer.
