When was the b-52 stratofortress used in the cold war?
When you say used, the B-52 was used from the first day it entered service in 1955. It was used as a deterrent against the USSR to ensure MAD – mutual assured destruction in the event that the USSR struck the U.S.A. first with nuclear weapons. It was used operationally to deliver weapons during the cold war in the Vietnam War (1964 – 1973) as a conventional bombing platform. The Vietnam war was a “hot point” of the cold war of the West vs. the USSR and allies. The B-52 is in service today, and is expected to be in service through 2040.
