When was slavery in america abolished?

In the US, slavery was abolished by the 13th Amendment which was ratified by the requisite 2/3 majority of the states in December 1865. Slavery was outlawed in international law by the UN in the 1940’s, I believe, although, even outlawed, it still exists today in some parts of the world where greed rules over the law.
