When was shag carpet invented or made available?
The ancient Greeks made flotaki rugs which were probably the progenitors of modern day shag rugs. I believe they were originally made from goats; but, today, these rugs are often synthetics. Turks may also lay claim to having originated shag rugs. I will not attempt to intermediate that debate. I confess to have been demented enough to have purchased an orange one in the Midwest back in the mid 1970s! Believe it or not, it looked similar to this, just bigger. Now, is it possible to have had a shag rug in Milwaukee, Wisconsin back in the 1950s? Absolutely. Perhaps it was a Greek import.
